The Bard Room Honors the History of the Guidebook

Date and time:
02/11/2010 19:30

Thursday, February 11 19:30-21:00 The Bard Room. To honor that literary format that has sustained so many Bardroom regulars, Budapest’s semi-regular of evening of live literature and music will feature a reading by Nicholas Parsons from his Worth the Detour: A History of the Guidebook. He is also the author of the Blue Guide Austria and Hungary: a Cultural and Historical Guide, as well as the co-author of Austrian Expressionism: The Formative Years. In addition, the Bardroom will host the jazz trio Maggie és a Muzsikások. As usual, the event will be at Treehugger Dan's Bookstore, Café & Lounge at Lázár u. 16, starting at 19:30 on Feb. 11. Guests will also have a chance to win unique, local treasures when hosts Jeff Taylor and Kálman Farago test the audience's knowledge on a range of obscure travel-related topics. All potential bards should be prepared to participate in the poetry writing contest, which will feature a touristic theme. The night's best poem (determined by audience reaction) will earn a valuable prize. Furthermore, aspiring writers can claim spots for open mic reading.
